Happy Hours in Five Points, Denver
Five Points is one of Denver's oldest neighborhoods and historically one of its most important โ it was the heart of Denver's Black community and jazz culture for most of the 20th century. The bar scene today reflects a neighborhood in transition: serious cocktail bars alongside neighborhood spots and craft breweries, with a community character that hasn't been entirely smoothed out by gentrification.
If you haven't explored Five Points for happy hour, you're missing some of the city's most interesting rooms.
What to Expect
Five Points is not as dense as LoDo or as walkable as Highlands, but the spots that are here are worth seeking out. The neighborhood stretches along Welton Street and the surrounding streets north of downtown. Happy hours run from serious cocktail programs to casual neighborhood bars, with prices that tend to be slightly more accessible than the trendier parts of the city.
Rideshare is the common approach. Street parking is usually available.
Best Spots
Death & Co Denver (1280 25th St) is one of the most respected cocktail bars in the country โ the Denver outpost of the New York original. Their happy hour specials change; check their site for current deals. Even at full price, Death & Co is worth knowing about if cocktails matter to you.
The Marigold (2721 Welton St) runs a genuinely good happy hour on Welton Street: Gin & House Tonic at $7, select wines at $9, featured cocktail at $10, PBR draft at $3.50, Cityscapes Lager at $6, Montucky Cold Snack cans available. The room is thoughtful and the cocktail list rotates with the seasons. This is the neighborhood's rising star.
Fort Greene (321 E 45th Ave) is further north in the neighborhood and runs one of the more food-forward happy hours in Five Points: martinis at $5, draft beers $2 off, wines $2 off, select cocktails at $9. The food specials โ French onion dip at $8, mini fish and chips at $11, hickory-smoked wings โ make this a genuine eat-during-happy-hour spot rather than just a drinks deal.
Yacht Club (3701 N Williams St) is a neighborhood bar further north โ check their site for current happy hour specials.
Cohesion Brewing (3851 Steele St) brings the Czech brewing tradition to Five Points โ check their site for taproom hours and specials.
The Local Move
The Marigold and Death & Co are the two anchors for a cocktail-focused Five Points evening. Start at The Marigold for the approachable happy hour pricing, then head to Death & Co for one serious cocktail at full price โ it's worth it. Fort Greene is the better pick if food is part of the plan.
Best Times to Visit
Weekday evenings work well in Five Points โ the neighborhood doesn't get the same weekday after-work crush as downtown, so you're more likely to get a seat at the bar and have a real conversation with the bartender. Weekends bring more foot traffic, particularly to Death & Co where reservations are often smart on Friday and Saturday nights.
Getting There
The 28th and Welton Light Rail stop puts you in the heart of Five Points. Rideshare drop on Welton Street works for most of the spots. The neighborhood is about a 20-minute walk from LoDo if you're cutting through downtown.
